On December 9th, 2024, the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (MOCDE) of The Gambia, in collaboration with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), including the The Gambia Cyber Security Alliance (GCSA), GamCON Infosec Community (GAMCON), Center For The Advancement of Science and Innovations (CASAI) ,and Stop Harassment and Online Abuse of Women and Girls (SHOAW GAMBIA), commemorated National Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2024 in Masakonko, Lower River Region (LRR) of The Gambia.
During the opening ceremony, Mr. Almamo Ceesay, Vice Chairman of the Mansakonko Area Council, representing the Chairman, delivered the keynote address. He emphasized the importance of this initiative and the necessary measures to mitigate the threats accompanying digital advancement.
Mr. Sanusi Drammeh, the Director of Cybersecurity delivered the opening statement on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry. In his speech, he expressed his gratitude for the strong partnership with CSOs, which was evident in the lead-up to the event. “Together, we aim to elevate cybersecurity awareness and enhance the digital capacity of our community.’’, he remarked.
The 4-day event includes panel discussions and training sessions for students and young women farmers on Child and Vulnerable Group Online Protection, Digital Literacy, and Entrepreneurship.
The initiative was proudly sponsored by Africell The Gambia, Comium Gambia, and the American Bar Association (ABA) through USAID.
The initiative aligns with the Ministry’s recently validated Plan of Action on special awareness-raising programs for Child and Vulnerable Groups Online Protection. It also supports our overarching policy interventions in advancing Digital Literacy and Entrepreneurship.
The week-long event, which concludes on December 12th, 2024, exemplifies the collaboration, cooperation, and synergy between public, private, and civil society sectors.
