The E-Government department within the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (MOCDE) plays a crucial role in modernizing government operations, enhancing service delivery, and fostering digital transformation across various sectors. The e-Government unit will ensure proper conceptualization, design, acquisition and deployment of e-Government application and services across the Government and responsible for e-Government strategy and policy frameworks formulation and implementation process.

E-Government department serves as a catalyst for digital transformation within the government, driving efficiency, transparency, and innovation in service delivery while empowering citizens through greater access to information and resources. By embracing digital technologies and fostering collaboration across sectors, the department plays a pivotal role in advancing national development agendas and building a more inclusive and digitally-enabled society.

E-Government Leadership and oversight: Provide vision, guideline and leadership for the planning, coordination, development, formulation, implementation and monitoring of e-Government initiatives, projects, programs and activities to improve operation, productivity and efficiency of the Ministry and of the Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Policy Formulation and Strategy Development: The department is responsible for formulating policies and strategies related to e-government initiatives in alignment with national development goals and digital transformation agendas.

Infrastructure Development: E-Government department oversees the development and maintenance of the necessary digital infrastructure required to support e-government initiatives. This includes building secure networks, implementing robust cybersecurity measures, and ensuring the availability of reliable platforms for delivering online services.

Service Design and Implementation: The department works closely with other government agencies especially GICTA, to design, develop, and implement digital services that are user-friendly, accessible, and efficient. This involves understanding citizen needs, streamlining processes, and leveraging emerging technologies to enhance service delivery.

Capacity Building and Training: To ensure the successful implementation of e-government initiatives, the E-Government department provides training and capacity building programs for government officials and stakeholders. This includes equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to leverage digital tools effectively and adapt to new ways of working.

Data Management and Governance: Managing data effectively is critical for delivering personalized and efficient services. The department establishes data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure the responsible collection, storage, and utilization of data while protecting citizen privacy and confidentiality.

Promotion and Awareness: The E-Government department plays a key role in promoting awareness and adoption of digital government services among citizens and businesses. This involves conducting outreach campaigns, organizing workshops, and leveraging various communication channels to educate stakeholders about the benefits of e-government and how to access digital services.

Monitoring and Evaluation: Continuous monitoring and evaluation are essential to assess the effectiveness and impact of e-government initiatives. The department develops key performance indicators (KPIs), conducts regular assessments, and solicits feedback from users to identify areas for improvement and ensure that digital services meet the evolving needs of citizens.
