The Ministry is honored to have participated in the Cybersecurity Awareness Raising Conference that was held in rural Gambia. This special event took place on the 24 November 2023 at the Regional Health Directorate in Basse.
The event theme: Secure our World, highlighted Digital Transformation issues in line with Cybersecurity followed by a Panel discussion on stakeholder roles, contributions, and current issues in the Cyberspace, data sovereignty, cybercrime, connectivity, infrastructure, capacity, online content regulations, among others. The discussions were also followed with very interesting and thought-provoking questions from the audience.
In his speech, the Director of Cybersecurity, Mr. Sanusi Drammeh discussed Digital Transformation pillars and how it relates to the Ministry’s mandate as well as ongoing projects and programs. The discussions also touched base on Cybersecurity in relation to Digital Transformation issues that the Ministry is addressing such as enhancing the legal and regulatory frameworks to become more agile while also highlighting efforts on combating cuybercrime and ensuring personal data protection and privacy.
Mr. Amadou A. Bah, the President of Gambia Cybersecurity Alliance (GCSA) also discussed the mandate of GCSA and the active role the organization is taking in capacity building, awareness raising, policy influence, and a time participation in domestic and Regional fora.
The event, which was sponsored by the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy (MOCDE), was organized and spearheaded by the Gambia Cybersecurity Alliance. Other key partners to the initiative such as Gambia Information Security Community (GAMCON) and Stop Harassment and Online Abuse of Women and girls (SHOAW) Gambia actively participated in the event discussions.
