The Minister of Communications & Digital Economy, Hon. Ousman Bah, is attending the CTO Digital Week and DCO 62nd Council Meeting

The Minister of Communications & Digital Economy, Hon. Ousman Bah, is attending the CTO Digital Week and DCO 62nd Council Meeting from 21st to 24th May, in London, UK.

Digital Week 2024 will bring together CTO’s members from across the Commonwealth and stakeholders in the technology sector, for a series of activities designed to assist members in establishing an enabling environment for, and effectively adopting information ICT for the benefit of all. The focus for Digital Week 2024 is on cybersecurity, so the theme for the week’s activities is: Building a secure digital future.
The objectives of Digital Week 2024 are as follows:
• 3 Convene CTO’s Executive Committee and 62nd Council meetings
• Increase cybersecurity consciousness in a digitally transforming world
• Present the results of the CTO’s Digital Transformation project.

In his addressing speech, Hon. Minister Bah stated that; “In an increasingly interconnected world, a secure digital future is not just an aspiration but a necessity. Noting that as we embrace digital transformation, we must ensure that our digital infrastructure, data, and communications are safeguarded against evolving cyber threats. He highlighted efforts by the Government of the Gambia to strengthen the Cyber space including adopting of the National Cybersecurity Policy, Strategy, and Action Plan, a new Communications Bill, specifically addressing Critical Information Infrastructure to and ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards, the Cybercrime Bill 2023, the establishment of Computer Incident Response Team (gmCSIRT), establishment of the country’s first Digital Forensics Laboratory (DFL) for the Gambia Police Force etc.

The 62nd Council will see CTO members discussions and consideration of several reports on the activities of the Secretariat for the period October 2023 to May 2024 including financial. It will also see the election of the Executive Committee Members of CTO.

The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) is the oldest and largest Commonwealth intergovernmental organisation in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Being fully involved in the development and use of ICTs for social and economic development, the management of the organisation recognize that it must stay at the cutting edge of ICT developments in order to deliver significant benefits to its members.
