The Gambia Advances Digital Transformation with Validation of e-Gambia Power Project Feasibility Study

The Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy has reached another important milestone in the country’s digital transformation journey with the validation of the e-Gambia Power Project Feasibility Study and Design.
The project represents a bold vision to transform existing electricity infrastructure into a digital backbone that will expand high-speed broadband connectivity to homes, businesses, schools, healthcare facilities, and public institutions across The Gambia.
Speaking at the validation, the Director of Cybersecurity at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy, Mr. Sanusi Drammeh, in his welcome address, described the project as a significant milestone in The Gambia’s digital transformation journey.
He explained that the e-Gambia Power Project is designed to expand fibre broadband connectivity to households, businesses, and public institutions nationwide. The initiative seeks to provide reliable high-speed internet access to support digital government services, online education, e-commerce, digital agriculture, healthcare, and other emerging digital opportunities.
Mr. Drammeh emphasized that the project will play a critical role in bridging the digital divide by ensuring that communities across the country, including remote areas, have access to affordable and reliable broadband services
The Honorable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Hon. Lamin Jabbi, described the project as more than an infrastructure investment, noting that it is about empowering people, creating opportunities, and ensuring that technology serves national development.
The Minister stressed the importance of moving from planning to implementation, ensuring that the project is technically sound, financially sustainable, and delivers meaningful benefits to all Gambians.
Meanwhile, stakeholders described the e-Gambia Power Project as a transformative initiative that will bring together energy, connectivity, digital services, and innovation to create new opportunities for citizens and accelerate economic growth.
The Lead Consultant from Wipro Technology Mr. David Wu highlighted that the project is built around the concept of network and service convergence, using existing power infrastructure to support a nationwide fiber network capable of delivering broadband services, smart metering, and other innovative digital solutions.
Key institutions including NAWEC, GAMTEL, Digital Gambia Limited, GAMSWITCH, and GICTA reaffirmed their commitment to working together to ensure the successful implementation of this national initiative.
The e-Gambia Power Project reflects The Gambia’s commitment to building an inclusive, resilient, and digitally connected nation where no community is left behind.
